Sunny 6 miler

Today, we ran six miles IN THE SUN. After a few weeks of foggy/misty runs, this weather was glorious!! We started at the Conservatory of Flowers and ran down to Ocean Beach and back. The run down to the beach wasn't that bad but the run back to the Conservatory was basically all up hill!
I finished in about 1:04 which is pretty good for me. Erik was done before me so I'm sure he ran under an hour.

Our fundraiser is coming up next Monday, 7/30, at Bin 38. Drink deals and Raffle prizes! If you want to help us reach our goal of $3500 raised for cancer, please donate to us here:

Doubles

We have been working hard this week.

On Monday, Erik ran 5 miles and I took a rest day. On Tuesday, I ran 2.5 miles and did pilates. Erik did a long swim in the pool.

Wednesday, I did Body Pump (weight class) in the AM and then we had our team track workout in the PM.

Our team track workout was surprisingly FUN!! We ran 200's with rest intervals. I love 200's - I ran track back in HS and they are quick to run. After our 200's, we did a core workout and stretched.

Today....I am sore! I think we are both taking a rest day today. Back at it tomorrow!

We're still FUND RAISING - Help us reach our goal by donating today!

Blogilates

Well, I have been having some hip and low back pain again - the same injury from when I trained for my first half marathon. It's due to a weak core and when I get up there on the mileage, my body is like -what is happening!?

I'm going to try pilates - at home so that I actually do it. I found an awesome channel on You Tube called Blogilates. There are a ton of videos up here for FREE.

Check out Blogilates

I did a 30 min video and could definitely feel my hip getting worked. Here's to hoping this helps me!

Ocean Beach Run

Saturday morning was another foggy, windy, and cold morning. We got up bright and early at 6:30am to make it to our run at Ocean Beach. Our friends picked us up at 7:10 and we got ready to run at 7:30.

Our run started at the beach, up into Golden Gate Park, and back to the beach. It was a pretty easy run which was great. I went for 5 miles (in about 52 min which is a good pace for me!) and Erik did about 8.

Here's Erik after the run - it was coooold

The foggy beach
After the run, we headed to breakfast at Sweet Maple. They had a large and delicious menu!
I had the Asparagus omelet with cheese, bacon, and hollandaise sauce. The bacon was "Millionaire's Bacon" done in brown sugar and maple syrup. YUM.
Here we are after our run, ready for a nap! haha
As for fundraising, we are up to $500! We are committing to raise $3,500 so we hope you will help us get there! You can donate here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/sf/nikesf12/thelunas

Yoga & Swimming

Yesterday, my back was killing me. I just felt so tight. I never do yoga but I woke up thinking, I need to do yoga. Initially, I thought of going to yoga class at the gym however, that is 60 min of straight yoga. I decided to start at home with the 20 min version. If I can work my way up to say 45 min straight, I'll consider a class.

Downward Dog & Evie likes to crawl under you while you do this!

She loves to squeeze herself on  the mat when you are doing yoga.

In other news, Erik decided to do the Alcatraz Challenge and is going to SWIM from Alcatraz to shore. Can you believe it? It is a 1 mile swim in 50 degree water with a strong current. Brrrr

Photo
I would love to join him in the pool to swim laps but I'm on the market for a new swimsuit first. The speedo I am rocking is a)too big b)about 15 years old c)a nice 1995 design.

We're looking at 5-8 mile run this weekend. Woot!

In other news, we have crossed the $500 donation mark and are on our way to raising $3,500!

Help us get there by donating today - http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpages.teamintraining.org%2Fsf%2Fnikesf12%2Fthelunas&h=NAQHAf_rm

Foggy 5 Miler and 5K

On Saturday AM, we got up bright and early for our run in the marina. We ran along Crissy Field out to the Golden Gate Bridge. It was sooo foggy that you could NOT see the bridge from 1/2 a mile away! We ran a total of five miles and it was a hard run. My hip was bothering me and felt super tight. Erik said that he didn't have that great of a run either. But, oh well - we got thru it and I'm sure it was a lot easier than what the cancer patients go thru, who we are fundraising for. Whenever I run with TNT, I always think - this is hard but easier than cancer treatment.

On Sunday, I ran a TNT 5K through Golden Gate Park. It was another foggy morning but it was good to get out there. I ran it in around 32 mins and felt like I could've gone faster. However, I was tired from the run the previous day. Here are some shots from the run:
Here we are ready to start - can you spot me?

Lots of purple on the course!

Woohoo! Good run & lots of running this weekend. We are inching up the mileage.

Coming Up: Marina Team Run

Check us out running with our team back in June! Haha. We have our team run coming up tomorrow at 8am up in the Marina. It should be a nice run, possibly windy, along the Marina green.

I went for a run on the 4th of July and finally felt like, oh ok this isn't so bad. I love that feeling because it means you are building up mileage and your body is adjusting. Erik also hit the pool this week and did some swimming as cross training. I would love to try to fit swimming in once a week, too. I also want to try going to Spin class 2x a week too to build leg strength.

Baker Beach 4 & 5Mi

On Saturdy, 6/30, we had our team run at Baker Beach. It was foggy and overcast and my allergies were also acting up big time.

Due to the 4th of July, there were only maybe 20 of us there for the run but that was ok! The run was pretty tough in the beginning - up hill through the Seacliff neighborhood until we reached Land's End. Then, we trail ran Land's End. The options were 4 or 5 miles. I did the 4 miles and Erik did 5 miles. I love hiking Land's End but running it is HARD! There are some steep areas and stairs, too.

Lesson learned today was  - 1)Take an allergy pill at least an hour before the run. I was sneezing/coughing/blowing my nose for a good 1/2 mile before I got into the swing of things 2)Do a warm-up run. Even If I run 1/2 mile before we get to the actual team run, I will be warmed up and ready to go. I think it takes me a little while to get my breathing in sync, etc.

Overall though, it was a great run. Beautiful, as usual. I also really wanted to take Evie to Baker Beach after this run so we went back the next day for her to frolic in the water.
